Hope Rising Foundation (HRF) Nigeria is a Human Development and Charity Organization which
has been a beacon of hope to the less privileged in our society since 2009.
We are very honoured to unveil the 2015 edition of HRF Donates which is a massive charity
programme aimed at reaching out to the neglected section of the society. The great physician
and missionary, Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell once said: “The service we render to others is really the
rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the
purpose of this world is not ‘to have and to hold’ but ‘to give and to serve’. There can be no
other meaning.”
This year’s edition will be held in honour of our highly distinguished member, Architect
Ologunde Busayo Adepeju (OBA) who passed on to glory in a fatal accident on March 7, 2015.
It’s being done to immortalize this young and passionate lady whose lifelong goal was to cater
for the neglected and less privileged in the society.
The 2-day programme has been scheduled to take place on May 1st and 2nd. On day one, we
shall be reaching out to the members of Ologun ebi and Idi araba villages in Iwo Local
Government Area of Osun State. On day two, we shall move to Covenant Orphanage and
Welfare Centre, Moro, Ife Central Local Government Area of the state.
“I have never met my parents. I grew up here and life has not been easy at all. But, things are
more difficult because we have been neglected by the society and the future seems to be very
hopeless and scary. Is it a crime to be born this way? Please help appeal to people out there to
remember and assist us too. We are not animals, God created us as human beings”, one of the
children said.
This is therefore to inform all Nigerians within and outside the country to join us in saving lives
by partnering with us, donating materials as well as cash to assist this set of people. It’s our
belief that “the moment we cease to care for one another is the day humanity comes to an
end.”
According to the Chief Facilitator of the project, Miss Oladiran Busayo, there will be general
medical check-up, Health education on personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle, orientation on
the New Nigeria Project and donation of beverages, other consumables, clothes, and some
farm implements to the villagers. For the charity home she said: "We have plans of sewing
beautiful Ankara clothes for the children in the charity home, have a party with them and
refurbish some parts of their home depending on how much Nigerians are willing to help us in
making this work out as planned”.
She continued: "No one prays to be in the position of those children. For those of us who have
parents, guardians and friends around, we are just privileged; it’s all by the grace of God. And
that’s why we all need to assist them in one way or the other so that we can put smile on their
faces. The real essence of living is to impact positively on other lives. No form of support is
small; just do something within your capacity. Thanks”
Are you willing to join us in saving some lives?

There is a Goldmine inside You!
Gold is a well known substance with
such a great worth that is second to none. In fact, it’s so invaluable that
many nations depend on it as a source of income. Countries like China, United
States, Australia, South Africa, and Ghana derive a huge percentage of their
national income from it. Little wonder the word “gold” represents treasure. It
therefore means that the goldmine-the
source of gold- is a place to behold!
Dear
reader, I want to reveal a secret to you right now. Well, you might have heard
it before or perhaps you are coming across it for the first time. Here it is in
the simplest form: ‘THERE IS A GOLDMINE INSIDE YOU’; it’s a fact, not a myth!
There is a great reserve of the highly sought-after treasure inside you. That
means you are precious! You are priceless!! You are invaluable!!! I mean YOU.
YES, the person reading this article. Then,
why have you embraced mediocrity? You must realise that the world is
waiting for you to bring forth the refined gold that is inside you. What are
you waiting for? There are great ideas in you, there are great skills that you
need to discover. God has made you complete, do not undermine his purpose for
your life. Don’t join the league of people that believe you don’t need to stand
tall in the society. You know what?
They are yet to know what they really
worth. Today, many people believe they are failure because they have failed
some exams. Some are even dejected because they have failed in their
relationships. Many believe they were created to be poor because they don’t
have enough cash on them. Oh no! They are very wrong. All these are just some
of the mining processes that the raw gold in you need to pass through before
becoming the much adorable gold that the world has been waiting for. It’s so pathetic that some young
people have even lost their self-worth. The way you see yourself determines
your carriage in the society. This in turn dictates the quality of respect you
get from people in the society. At times, some people feel inferior to enter
certain places. It’s so bad that they can’t even talk to some set of people
because they see themselves as too inferior and worthless.
If you belong to
this category, please there is an urgent need to change your mentality right
now; you have a perfect nature and there is a brighter future that lies ahead
of you. Many unborn babies are crying and waiting eagerly for the irreplaceable
legacies you will leave for them to follow; you can’t afford to let them down.
Remember, there is an extensive goldmine inside you. I have heard certain young
people say they can’t stand up to speak because they are not “beautiful” or
“handsome”.
Surprisingly, many would say they can’t disclose their identities
just because they did not study some hyped courses or attend certain
institutions. Common! That’s the thinking pattern of a man without any seed in
him. For instance, there is this general
sentiment about polytechnic graduates in Nigeria and yet, the highly respected
motivational speaker and mentor, Sam Adeyemi, is a polytechnic graduate.
Are you surprised? Please, don’t be! It’s not all about institution or course,
it’s about YOU; Institutions will only help in some stages of the mining
process, the whole task of refining that innate gold still lies with you.
Let me share another of such
sentiment with you. Many young people would say they can never become teachers.
In fact, they believe teaching is only meant for those who do not have better
job offers. Yet, I have a friend who had made up her mind right from childhood to
become a successful teacher. Her name is Miss Ibitoye Omobolanle; she inspires
me a lot of young people. Considering her level of brilliance, you would
naturally conclude that she is best suited for medicine or law profession as
widely believed. But, she would always say: “Teaching is my passion, I love it so much. I want to build lives right
from primary school stage; I want to sow seeds into the lives of the future
leaders. Teachers are builders and I’m very proud to be one of them”. I’m
not surprised that she is a highly desirable teacher by parents of pupils in
the school. It pays to be diligent at whatever you do.
Starting from today, you must know
your worth. Walk on the street with your shoulders high. No more worries, no
more regrets, no more inferiority complexes, no more depression. You must not
allow the great wealth inside you waste without expression. Dig the goldmine
inside you, refine the gold and offer it for the whole world, especially our
dearest nation to use. If you refuse to do that, many people will starve to
death. Do you want to be tagged a
“murderer”? God Forbid! Then, you must start today, tomorrow might be too
late.
TAKE HOME POINT: Forget all the failures that you have experienced so
far, they are mere events that can’t determine who you are because YOU ARE A READY-MADE
TREASURE. Start a new beginning; this is your time to shine!

HRF HEALTH ANGLE: What Do You Know About Toilet Disease?
“To my knowledge, no one has ever acquired Sexually Transmitted Diseases
(STDs) on the toilet seat unless they
were having sex on the toilet seat!”-
Pres, American Society for Microbiology.
Lady MH, a 21 year 200L student in a
Nigerian university, shared her experience. She said: “Toilet Disease is very embarrassing. Few hours after using the toilet
reserved for my floor in the hostel, I started feeling this strange itching in
my ‘womanhood’; It wasn’t funny at all. I wish I never contacted it, but it was
due to my ignorance as a fresher at that time. Thank God for timely medical
intervention”
What is “Toilet Disease”?
It does not have an internationally
acceptable definition simply because, uhmm, guess what!, it doesn’t exist.
Don’t be shocked! Although, you can contract certain infections from toilet
seats, flush handle, water faucet handle and even, doorknobs if they are not
kept clean. This is expected. Imagine you drinking water from a dirty cup that
has been used for serving many people without being washed. How does it sound?
The same rule applies to toilet seats. However, you cannot contract Sexually
Transmitted Infections like Gonorrhea, Syphilis, herpes, HIV, HPV etc as widely
believed. Ladies are mostly affected because the ‘design’ of their genitourinary
system makes them more prone to infections. A recent study showed that “only 35%
of men wash their hands after using a public bathroom. Women were twice as
likely to wash, up at 65%”
What are the sources of these infections?
They result mostly from certain
bacteria or fungi which could be present on the toilet seats and other places in
the toilet/bathroom. Specifically, Candidiasis (caused by some fungi) could be gotten
from wearing dirty and/or wet underwears especially when they are silk/nylon;
wearing of extremely tight-fitting pants.
The Symptoms
·
Vaginal
and Labial Itching
·
Abnormal
vaginal discharge
·
Pain
with intercourse
·
Painful
urination
·
Redness
and swelling of the vulva etc.
Diagnosis and Tests
The doctor will ask for your sexual history, current signs
and symptoms, and some tests might be carried out depending on the outcome of
examination. Don’t be scared. Hun!
Treatment
·
Appropriate
drugs to cure the infection will be given by the doctor.
·
Advice
on good personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle.
·
Practice
of safe sex.
·
Regular
and Prompt medical check up is very essential.
Prevention Tips
·
Practice
safe sex
·
Ensure
that your toilet is always clean. However, if you are to use a public or
‘strange’ toilet, use tissue to wipe/cover the seat before use.
·
Wash
your hands with soap and water after using the toilet.
·
Avoid
wearing extremely tight-fitting pants or shorts which may cause irritation.
·
Wear
clean, dry cotton underwear.
·
Keep
your genital area clean and dry. Avoid soap and rinse with water only; Sitting
in a warm but not hot, bath may help.
·
Avoid
douching.
·
Avoid
using feminine hygiene sprays, fragrant or powders in the genital area.
…….and then, men! Don’t
think you are totally free especially when you flirt around. You can actually
contact those infections through sex. So, ensure you share this article with
all the ladies in your life- wives, fiancée, girlfriends, sisters, cousins,
aunts and then, concubines if you have any *winks.

Health Angle:HEPATITIS B- Kissing and the Silent But Deadly Killer Disease!
I'm sure many people think there's no other disease that's worse than
HIV/AIDS, but truth be told, Hepatitis B infection is deadlier. The Hepatitis B
Virus (HBV) is 50 to 100 times more infectious than HIV; it’s such a perfect
silent killer! In most cases, HBV causes limited infection which people manage
to fight off successfully within a few months, developing an immunity that
lasts a lifetime. However, some don’t get rid of the infection (these people
are called carriers). In a few others, the infection becomes chronic leading to
cirrhosis (hardening of the liver) or liver cancer which eventually leads to
failure of the organ/death.
What is Hepatitis B?
It is a serious disease or illness of
the liver caused by the HBV. Hepatitis is "inflammation" of the liver
which simply means the swelling of the liver after being infected by the
hepatitis virus. Let’s liken the liver to a red tomato: It looks smooth, fresh
and red when it’s healthy. But, when the tomato is infected, rather than
looking fresh, you will begin to see some irritating darkish spots. The healthy
and infected liver, in the same way, have distinct looks.
Causes/Mode of
Transmission/Risk Factors
These viruses gain access into the
body cells, take them up and rebuild to their own taste. At this stage, the
immune system of the body sees these deformed cells as ‘foreign ‘and starts
destroying them not knowing that this is 'suicide'. HBV is spread by infected
blood and other bodily fluids such as semen, vaginal secretions, saliva
(through kissing) and open sores. Others are blood transfusions, tattooing, piercing,
and sharing needles, razors or toothbrushes with an infected person, transmission
from mother to child, working in healthcare setting.
Signs and Symptoms
After contracting this virus, the
incubation period i.e, the period from when it multiplies within the body to
the time it starts making you know of its presence through symptoms and signs
is the incubation period. This is usually within 6weeks to 6months. Some of the
symptoms are developed in the acute phase. They include, but not limited to:
·
Jaundice
(yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes and/or a brownish/orange tint to
the urine)
·
Unusually
light-coloured stool
·
Mild
fever and body aches
·
Unexplained
fatigue that persists for weeks or months
·
Gastrointestinal
Tract symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
·
Abdominal
distention and pain (from an enlarged liver)
·
Hair
loss which can be on the head, armpit, pubic areas
·
Swelling
of the cheeks
·
Big
breasts in men and the opposite in women
·
Easy
bruisability that is, you have a cut and before you can stop bleeding, it might
take forever
·
Weight
Loss
Despite all of these, it must be clearly stated that about
30% of those infected do not show typical signs or symptoms. Frequently, there
will be no symptoms, and it is only discovered in a blood test.
Exams and Test
Blood tests detect either the viral
antigens (proteins produced by the virus) or antibodies produced by the host
(the infected person).
Prevention
The good news is that Hepatitis B is
preventable. And for those who already contracted it, there are ways of
reducing its complications and even "wiping it out of your system".
In simple terms, avoid the various modes of transmission highlighted earlier on
and get vaccinated. Hepatitis B vaccine, which is in 3 doses, helps to confer
resistance to the virus even when you come in contact with it.
Treatment
In some cases, people are able to ward off the virus and their bodies develop lifelong immunity against the virus. In others, treatment include the use of antiviral drugs that in most cases help reduce the complications of the disease and doing series of tests to check the viral level in the body which can be money consuming. Hepatitis B virus infection is a deadly disease because in most cases "e dey show for face" and it crumbles the life of an individual rapidly without wasting time. But let's remember that "prevention, they say, is always better than cure". So, please get vaccinated!!!
